Blackpool has unveiled a dazzling array of new, fun-packed features for the 2025 Illuminations, created in collaboration with four nationally acclaimed artists.
Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen brings three seven-metre dragons to life on the Tower Festival Headland, combining light, smoke and interactive projections by Ant Dickinson. His playful Lusch Puppy portraits reimagine pampered pooches in regal attire, while Space Canopy, standing 11.2 metres tall, celebrates the motion of stars and satellites. A classically trained fine artist, Llewelyn-Bowen is renowned for bold patterns and imaginative design.
Robert E Fuller transforms the roadway into an illuminated open-air gallery of British wildlife, from foxes and badgers to pheasants and birds. Fuller is celebrated for his lifelike paintings, wildlife films, conservation work and online streams that give audiences a window into the natural world.
Jason Wilsher-Mills MBE presents LOVE, a six-panel installation telling the story of a lifelong romance inspired by his childhood memories of Blackpool. His work explores disability, northern working-class heritage and popular culture through immersive, large-scale art.
My Dog Sighs brings HUG, featuring twelve versions of his Everyman character against vivid, textured backdrops. The international street artist combines photorealistic portraiture, found materials and immersive urban installations that captivate audiences worldwide.
Speaking at the preview event, Cllr Lynn Williams, Leader of Blackpool Council, said: “Together they offer something unique, told through humour, creativity or simply making memories of our town.
“We are really proud of the amazing spectacle that is Blackpool Illuminations and of the talent on display, not least our talented team at Lightworks who build and create these works of light art. This year is again going to be very special!”
The season begins Friday, August 29th, with gates opening at 4pm and performances starting from 5.30pm. The launch will be marked by a special balloted music concert on the Tower Festival Headland. Pop superstar Olly Murs will deliver a free hour-long set before switching on the six miles of Illuminations. He will be joined by English rock band Toploader, X Factor winner Louisa Johnson, and a showcase of local talent called ‘Blackpool Introduces.’
24,000 free tickets were offered through a ballot, but don’t worry if you miss out, a live screening zone along the Promenade will let everyone enjoy Blackpool’s biggest night of the year.
The Illuminations run nightly until Sunday, January 4th 2026.
