Blackpool is gearing up to bid farewell to an extraordinary year of events with a spectacular New Year’s Eve celebration on the Promenade.
This free, family-friendly event promises music, entertainment and a breathtaking synchronised fireworks and projection show to close one of the most successful seasons on record.
Taking place on Tuesday, December 31st, the festivities will unfold from 3pm to 6pm within the magical Christmas By The Sea village at the Tower Festival Headland. Visitors can enjoy a Bavarian-style oompah band and a variety of entertainment set against the iconic backdrop of the Comedy Carpet. The evening will culminate in a mesmerising fireworks display choreographed to music, providing the perfect way to welcome the new year.
2024 has been a landmark year for Blackpool, with record crowds flocking to events like Air Show Weekend, Illuminations Switch-On, the World Fireworks Championship, Lightpool Festival and the new Halloween Monster Hunt.
Cllr Lynn Williams, Leader of Blackpool Council, said, “This has been another fabulous year for Blackpool, one in which we have been able to offer free entertainment of the highest quality to visitors and residents alike. These events have proved a compelling offer to families at a time when household budgets are feeling the squeeze. We are looking forward to ending the year with a flourish.”
Opened on November 15th by Strictly Come Dancing professionals Carlos Gu, Kai Widdrington, Nancy Xu and Neil Jones, the Christmas By The Sea village has once again established itself as a must-visit festive destination. With a free-to-use ice rink at its heart, the village offers enchanting light installations, festive log cabins serving seasonal treats, artificial snowfalls, sparkling trees and tram rides. For thrill seekers, the village boasts a helter skelter, a 100ft snow slide, and the towering 260ft Star Flyer swing ride – one of Europe’s tallest. On New Year’s Eve, the village will open from noon until 9pm, with the world-famous Illuminations shining until 1am.
In addition to the New Year’s Eve celebration, Blackpool offers an array of festive entertainment including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the Winter Gardens Opera House from December 10th to 29th, Cinderella at Blackpool Grand Theatre until January 1st featuring Britain’s Got Talent finalist Steve Royle, and Aladdin at Pleasure Beach Resort from November 23rd to December 24th. High Jinx’s Magic & Illusion Show at The Blackpool Tower Circus will run on select dates throughout December.
A resort-wide festive programme also includes grottos, late-night shopping, and a special discounted parking offer – four hours for just £2 on most Blackpool Council car parks.
