The wait is over! This weekend, Blackpool will be ablaze with colour and light as the World Fireworks Championship 2024 begins.
Starting this Saturday, September 7, the first of three electrifying evenings will bring together some of the world’s top pyrotechnic teams for an unforgettable display over the beach in front of The Blackpool Tower. With additional shows on September 21 and October 5, this free event promises to be a highlight of the year, offering jaw-dropping entertainment for all ages.
This Saturday’s opening display will feature Nakaja Art from Poland, a team with over 25 years of experience staging spectacular firework shows across Europe and Central America. Their expertise is set to dazzle the crowds and kick off the championship in style. As you enjoy the festivities, the build-up will start at 7:30pm, with the fireworks set to light up the sky around 8:30pm.
Following this weekend’s excitement, the World Fireworks Championship will continue on Saturday, September 21, with a display by Pyroman Finland Ltd. This team, established 20 years ago, is Finland’s leading supplier of pyrotechnics and special effects and they are sure to deliver a memorable performance. The final act of the championship will be on Saturday, October 5, when Great Lakes Fireworks from Michigan, USA, will take the stage. Known for their spectacular displays across the United States, they will bring the competition to a thrilling conclusion.
The fireworks will be choreographed to music, creating a mesmerising experience against the stunning backdrop of The Blackpool Tower. With such a high level of artistry on display, these evenings are the perfect opportunity to enjoy an extended weekend break in Blackpool, soaking up the brilliant atmosphere and exploring all that the town has to offer.
Given the popularity of the World Fireworks Championship, we anticipate traffic delays as visitors arrive and leave the event. To make your experience as smooth as possible, we recommend arriving early. If you’re traveling by car, consider parking in the southern car parks and using the tramway to reach the event site. Alternatively, public transport options such as the rail system or local buses are highly recommended.
