Blackpool is gearing up to welcome visitors to another stunning edition of the Lightpool Festival, which will run over the October half-term from Friday 18th to Saturday 26th October.
As part of the extended Blackpool Illuminations season, this year’s festival will showcase captivating light installations from the UK, France, Finland, and Spain, transforming some of the town’s most iconic buildings and outdoor spaces.
Lightpool Festival is procured and produced by Festival Artistic Director, Philip Holmes working in partnership with key sponsors including Arts Council England, Blackpool Tourism BID, The Blackpool Tower, Shared Prosperity Fund (UK Government), Grundy Art Gallery, Showtown, LeftCoast, and VisitBlackpool. Supporters include Blackpool Football Club Community Trust, Houndshill Shopping Centre and Aunty Social.
The festival will see the UK premiere of at least 15 new artworks, with installations including everything from mesmerising projection shows to interactive light displays and live performances.
One of the highlights is the return of Carnival Magic in the historic Tower Ballroom, where performers from Global Grooves International will bring the space to life with a blend of music, puppetry, and dance. Other features of the festival include immersive experiences like the stunning Tower Projections, which light up Blackpool Tower each evening from 6pm with vibrant colours, lights and sounds.
Art installations along the festival’s light trail will offer visitors a range of unique experiences, including Neuron, a piece inspired by brain connectivity, and Supernova, a light sculpture designed to replicate the dramatic explosion of a star.
This year’s Lightpool Festival promises to be a celebration of creativity, with free events and attractions that will appeal to both residents and visitors. Whether it’s walking through the beautiful light art installations or enjoying the magical atmosphere of Blackpool Tower, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
The Lightpool Festival forms part of Blackpool’s extended Illuminations season, which began in August and runs until January 5th, 2025.
