Reflecting on a Year of Progress with Blackpool BIDs Annual Report & AGM

The Blackpool BIDs Annual Report for 2023/24 offers a comprehensive look at a year defined by community support, strategic growth and effective initiatives to strengthen local businesses.

Recently shared at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), the report highlights how targeted efforts have boosted the local economy, attracted visitors and provided practical resources for businesses across Blackpool.

Here’s a closer look at the key achievements in 2023/24 and ongoing projects shaping Blackpool’s future.

Strengthening Blackpool’s Foundations for Growth

As Blackpool BIDs moves into the final year of its current five-year term, there’s been a clear focus on building strong foundations through practical partnerships and careful financial management.

Increased levy collection, effective debt management and constructive partnerships with Blackpool Council have made a range of impactful projects possible. These initiatives continue to support both the town’s retail and tourism sectors, ensuring that Blackpool remains a welcoming place for residents and visitors alike.

Since the introduction of the two-BID model in 2021, Blackpool BIDs has been able to tailor its efforts to better serve the needs of the town. The Town Centre BID has focused on bolstering the retail sector, while the Tourism BID (TBID) has prioritised tourism and leisure, addressing unique challenges in these areas.

Guided by Blackpool BIDs Ltd. board of Directors and the management groups for each BID led by Chairs Jo Duff (Town Centre BID) and Kate Shane (Tourism BID), Blackpool BIDs is dedicated to maintaining a balanced approach that supports local businesses and the wider community.

Key Initiatives and Achievements in 2023/24

  1. Improving Safety and Enhancing Public Spaces:

This year, BID Wardens and CCTV operators have been active in maintaining a safe and secure town centre, addressing incidents of theft and anti-social behaviour and fostering a more secure environment for all. Projects have also focused on improving public spaces, such as greening efforts in St John’s Square and Topping Street, regular cleaning and the upkeep of key areas.

These ongoing efforts reflect Blackpool BIDs’ dedication to creating an attractive, well-maintained environment for everyone to enjoy.

  1. Amplifying Blackpool’s Presence with Targeted Marketing Campaigns:
Marketing campaigns led by the TBID have played a significant role in raising Blackpool’s profile as a destination. The “Only in Blackpool” campaign saw an impressive rise in visitor intentions for overnight stays, contributing valuable revenue to the local economy.

Additional campaigns, including promotions around Easter and the Lightpool Festival, successfully attracted footfall, while events like the “Capital of Dance” strengthened Blackpool’s identity as a hub for culture and entertainment.

  1. Providing Resources to Support Local Businesses:

Alongside major events, Blackpool BIDs has continued its focus on addressing the everyday needs of local businesses.

Social media training sessions, active participation in Shopwatch and Pubwatch schemes, and targeted investments in public lighting have all helped businesses engage customers, improve security, and access essential resources to support their work.

  1. Celebrating Blackpool’s Festive Season with Seasonal Events:

Blackpool BIDs’ commitment to seasonal events was evident in festive initiatives such as “Christmas by the Sea” and the New Year’s Eve fireworks, which drew families and visitors alike.

Attractions such as the ice rink, Christmas markets, and extended lighting displays brought a cheerful atmosphere to the town during the winter months, boosting footfall and supporting local businesses. These events play a crucial role in maintaining Blackpool as an inviting destination throughout the year.

Planning for Future Growth

Looking forward, Blackpool BIDs is committed to driving growth and supporting the town’s economy. With the arrival of over 2,500 civil servants in the town centre, expected in 2025, upcoming projects will focus on improving infrastructure, from wayfinding systems to modern lighting, to make sure Blackpool businesses benefit from the increasing footfall in the town centre.

Blackpool BIDs remain dedicated to providing practical resources, promoting business success, and fostering community growth.
